With Joseph's wheat stalk standing up at harvest time, I have a special interest in these things. So I am going to show you Jacob's blessing to his son Joseph. We are going to compare the "flowery" King James Version to what the words in Genesis 49: 22 actually say.

You may not understand why I am showing this to you now, but I do. So for now, call it a lesson in searching the scriptures for yourself in order to understand them.

Genesis 49: 22
בן son

Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well; whose branches run over the wall:

Joseph is a fruitful son, a fruitful son in my eye; daughters run on the wall:

פרת a fruitful
יוסף Joseph
בן son
פרת a fruitful
עלי in, on, over, beside
עין an eye
בנות women, daughters
צעדה run
עלי in, on, over, beside
שור a wall

Genesis 49: 23
וימררהו have sorely grieved him

The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him:

The archers, in this case, are daughters running on the wall (see verse above).

ורבו and shot, or attacked
וישטמהו and harassed, or hated
בעלי the archers, the leaders, the men
חצימ arrows

Genesis 49: 24
ותשב and sat her down, and sat, and lived, and dwelt, and abode, and remained

But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel:)

This "bow" is not just a weapon. It is the same word as is used in rainbow. It has connotations of a promise in the word.

This blessing tells me that YHWH's promise is stronger than their arrows.

באיתן firm, in strength
קשתו but his bow, His bow
ויפזו were made strong, was made strong
זרעי and the arms, and his arms
ידיו his hands, with his hands
מידי by the hands, from the hands, from the power
אביר of the Mighty One
יעקב Jacob
משם in it, from there, there
רעה was a keeper, fed, was feeding, shepherd, he is tending
אבן the stone, a stone
ישראל Israel
